I found an article in the Austin American Statesman entitled, “Senate Republican leader stands firm on tax cuts for all.” This article is written by David M. Herszenhorn. This article talks about Republican and Democratic senators, and their views regarding tax cuts. Herszenhorn specifically talks about Senator Mitch McConnell and Senator Joe Lieberman.
Herszenhorn says that McConnell’s plan for tax cuts is to continue all of the Bush-era tax cuts indefinitely. McConnell accused the White House and Democrats in Congress of “using their one-party control of Washington over the past two years to run up spending, and now they want to raise taxes to spend even more.”
This article also talks about the view of Lieberman to extend tax cuts at all income levels for one year. Lieberman believes that "the more money left in private hands the quicker our economic recovery will be." Herszenhorn reports that Lieberman said he will not block a bill with tax breaks only for lower income households.
Herszenhorn also talks about Senate Democrats not being prepared for the tax cut debate. Instead the Senate Democrats are going to bring the Pentagon authorization bill to the floor which will consume more time of the remaining four weeks of the senate session.
